What’s Confirmed for the 2027 LEAF S

The LEAF S is a new entry grade added to the 2027 LEAF lineup. It pairs a 53 kWh lithium-ion battery with a 174-horsepower electric motor producing 254 lb-ft of torque, and it carries a Nissan-estimated range of 341 km.

Charging is built around a dual-port setup: a J1772 port on the driver’s side handles Level 1 and Level 2 home charging, while a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port on the passenger side opens up faster public charging with Plug & Charge capability. The S grade includes a 7.2 kW onboard charger.

On the tech side, the LEAF S comes standard with dual 12.3-inch displays (a NissanConnect touchscreen and an Advanced Drive-Assist Display), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the full Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of driver-assist features.

The jump from S to S+ is the meaningful one: a larger battery, more power, a faster 11 kW onboard charger that cuts Level 2 charging time by roughly 35 percent, and close to 150 km more estimated range. That is a real trade-off for anyone weighing a lower entry point against fewer charging stops.

Above S+, range actually varies by trim rather than climbing further, since SV+ and PLATINUM+ add weight through larger wheels, heated surfaces, and other equipment rather than more battery.

Public charging access is where the LEAF S earns its keep for drivers who do not have a home charger yet, or who want backup options on longer routes across the province. The Nissan Energy Charge Network, accessed through the MyNISSAN Canada app, lets drivers locate and pay for charging at more than 25,000 stations across Canada from one platform, instead of juggling multiple charging apps and accounts.

At home, the LEAF S covers the basics: a portable charging cable is available for standard outlets, a charging timer lets owners set a preferred charge window, and a battery heater helps protect performance in colder weather. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability is standard, so the battery can power compatible external devices, useful for anything from small tools to camping gear.

As a daily driver, the LEAF S is sized for real life rather than showroom specs. Cargo space runs 566.3 L behind the rear seats and 1,571.6 L with them folded, enough for grocery runs, hockey gear, or a school pickup without planning around the trunk. Ground clearance sits at 134.6 mm, with an 18-degree approach angle and 23.7-degree departure angle, numbers that support confident handling on uneven driveways and unplowed side streets.

Safety coverage does not shrink with the lower price point. The S grade includes Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Blind Spot Warning and Intervention, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, Lane Keep Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Driver Attention Alert, all standard.
